Bert Chanetsa

Bert Chanetsa is a global consultant, coach, and capacity builder specialising in securities, capital markets, and funds regulation and supervision. He is the Chairman of the Centre of Excellence in Financial Services, an independent non-executive board member of A2X Stock Exchange, and a P.R.I.M.E. Finance Foundation Expert.
Previously, Bert served as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Services Board of South Africa (FSB), overseeing securities and capital markets regulation. He was also a board member of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and Vice-Chairman of IOSCO’s Growth and Emerging Markets Committee, where he contributed as a member of the Monitoring Board of the IFRS Foundation.
With extensive local and international experience in legal practice and financial services—including commercial, merchant, and investment banking, as well as private equity—Bert has worked for leading institutions such as Baker & McKenzie, First National Bank of Boston (Massachusetts, USA), Standard Chartered Bank, Standard Merchant Bank (now Standard Corporate & Investment Bank), and Nedbank (as Head of Strategy for Nedbank Africa). His career spans the USA, Australia, Canada, and South Africa.
Bert holds BL, LLB, and Juris Doctor degrees and is admitted to practice law in both the State of Illinois, USA, and South Africa. He is a member of the American Bar Association, where he previously served as Vice-Chair of the International Securities and Capital Markets Committee (Section of International Law). He is also a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
Bert is the author of Securities and Capital Markets Regulation in South Africa.
