Qiniso Mthembu is the Group Chief Risk Officer at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, where she leads the Group’s enterprise-wide risk and resilience programme.

A highly astute and resourceful business management professional, Qiniso brings 21 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. She has worked across various industries, including a multinational corporation in the manufacturing sector, holding key roles in operations, business development, strategy, risk, and compliance.

She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of South Africa and is a Certified Risk Management Practitioner. Passionate about mentorship and professional development, she actively contributes to shaping the next generation of risk professionals.

Qiniso is a Board member of the Institute of Risk Management of South Africa (IRMSA) and has played a pivotal role in drafting IRMSA’s 2022 and 2023 South Africa Risk Reports, which assess the country’s risk landscape. She has also served as Chairperson of the Risk Intelligence Committee, overseeing the development of the annual risk report.

Beyond IRMSA, Qiniso is an active participant in global and industry forums. She serves on the Chief Risk Officers Community of the World Economic Forum, the World Federation of Exchanges Enterprise Risk Working Group, and the Financial Sector Contingency Forum. Additionally, she holds Board and committee positions in various non-profit organisations.

Outside of her professional commitments, Qiniso is a dedicated mother of two, an avid marathon runner, and, most recently, a Mount Kilimanjaro summiteer.
